About John Griogair Bell
In every position I have ever held I have been focused on what I’ve come to call Communications Troubleshooting. I think about communication, create and implement tools and methods of communication, and develop sustainable communication processes. Whether editing and correcting texts, performing public and internal relations, developing information design, creating and preserving institutional memory, or implementing policy and procedure; I am interested in both simple and complex systems of interaction and how they can function better.
Since the early days of the Internet, I have been involved with many diverse aspects of technical operations and services. I was the wearer of many hats at two of the large regional ISPs in Washington State, where I was a member of technical management responsible for many aspects of operations: from daily systems administration and automation, staff management and development, to public and customer relations.
Subsequent to that I worked for several non–profits, developing a standards–based catalog system intended primarily for under–funded libraries. This system is still in use in several libraries in the Pacific Northwest.
For the next couple of years, I focused on academics, including returning to school to complete my Bachelor’s degree and then to graduate school. I completed graduate work with an MA in Whole Systems Design, during which I pursued my interdependent interests in dialogue, systems thinking, design, transformation and communications. This means that I am interested in the way that complex systems work and how to enhance those systems in sustainable ways through communications and design.
Since leaving the academic world, I have been doing web development and communications consulting and have been very actively volunteering. For the last couple of years one of my primary personal projects has been The Hermetic Library at Hermetic.com, a fantastic resource for those interested in the Western Esoteric Tradition.
I would love to discuss with you how I can help with your projects.
